The U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service is the principal federal agency responsible for conserving, protecting
and enhancing fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats
for the continuing benefit of the American people. The
Service manages the 95-million-acre National Wildlife Refuge
System, which encompasses 540 national wildlife refuges,
thousands of small wetlands and other special management areas.
It also operates 69 national fish hatcheries, 64 fishery resource
offices and 81 ecological services field stations.
The agency
enforces federal wildlife laws, administers the Endangered
Species Act, manages migratory bird populations, restores
nationally significant fisheries, conserves and restores wildlife
habitat such as wetlands, and helps foreign governments
with their conservation efforts. It also oversees the Federal
Aid program that distributes hundreds of millions of
dollars in excise taxes on fishing and hunting equipment to
state fish and wildlife agencies

To preserve and conserve the
rural, cultural and historical character of the hamlet of
Brookhaven and surrounding areas in Suffolk County, New
York. This includes undeveloped real estate to be kept in
its natural state as a sanctuary, open space or natural
garden and improved and developed land to be used for the
maintenance and care of such properties as well as for
possible display and exhibit of appropriate collections.

object of the Brookhaven Village Association is to aid in
the preservation of the natural beauties of Brookhaven
Hamlet; to encourage and assist in all improvements
pertaining to public welfare; to cooperate with public
officials in the faithful performance of their duties; and
to guard, in every way, the interests of the residents of
Brookhaven Hamlet.

Great South Bay Audubon Society is to advocate for conservation
of habitat for birds and other wildlife of Long Island.

The Dennis Puleston Osprey
Fund encourage research about ospreys on Long Island,
improve their nesting opportunities and educate the public
about them. The Fund recognizes that for ospreys to be successful
they must have a viable and healthy habitat in which
to live, an objective that Dennis clearly understood and supported.

Brookhaven Hamlet is located
in the southern part of the
Town
of Brookhaven (the largest Town in land area in New York
State) in Suffolk County, NY. It is situated within
the South
Country School District, and the district's high school
and one of its elementary schools are located here.

Ecological
and
Research Reserve |
Brookhaven
National Laboratory occupies 5,625 acres. On
November
9, 2000, ten percent of the site (530 acres) was
permanently set aside for the purposes of conservation and
ecological research under an
agreement
with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service. This unique Pine Barrens ecosystem provides
a home to more than 220 species of plants and 162 species of
mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians.

Foundation is a private, non-profit organization,
established by Congress in 1984 and dedicated to the
conservation of fish, wildlife, and plants, and the habitat on
which they depend.

1951, The Nature Conservancy
is the world’s leading private conservation organization, with
more than one million members and the largest system of
private nature sanctuaries in the world. Its mission is to
preserve plants, animals and natural communities that
represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the
lands and waters they need to survive.
The
Long Island Chapter embraces the entire North Fork of
Suffolk County, the South Fork west of the Shinnecock Canal,
Nassau County and the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens. The
Chapter owns and manages 38 preserves, including 13 visitor
preserves throughout Suffolk and Nassau Counties which are
open to the public for walks and guided tours.

1975, the National
Wildlife Refuge Association has been the only organization
dedicated exclusively to protecting, enhancing and expanding
the National Wildlife Refuge System, lands and waters set
aside by the American people to protect our country's diverse
